Acompanhem a entrevista exclusiva concedida ao FIGHTTV pelo Americano Rafael Lovato Jr, Campeão Mundial 2007 (IBJJF -  Pesadíssimo), Bi-Campeão Pan-Americano 2007 e2008 (IBJJF – Super-Pesado e Pesado) e que desponta entre os 10 melhores lutadores da atualidade em três categorias de peso distintas, a Pesado, a Super-Pesado e  a Pesadíssimo.

FIGHTTV - Rafael, primeiramente gostaríamos de agradecer sua gentileza em nos conceder esta entrevista, e dizer-lhe que para nós é uma satisfação poder divulgar ao nosso público um pouco sobre sua história.

Rafael Lovato Jr – Muito obrigado, o prazer é meu.   

FIGHTTV - Rafael, seu nome é muito comum no Brasil, e muitos achavam que você fosse brasileiro. Você tem descendência brasileira ?

Rafael Lovato Jr – Não, eu não tenho nenhuma descendência. Recebi este nome em homenagem ao meu pai, que é espanhol.   

FIGHTTV - Qual sua idade, e com quantos anos e você iniciou a prática do Jiu-Jitsu ?

Rafael Lovato Jr – Eu tenho 24 anos e eu tinha 13 anos quando eu comecei o Jiu-Jitsu. 

FIGHTTV - Além do Jiu-JItsu já praticou  alguma outra arte-marcial ?

Rafael Lovato Jr - Sim, eu pratiquei.  Meu pai é um instrutor de "Jeet Kune Do" e ele me envolveu com artes marciais quando eu ainda era criança. Eu era muito ativo no Boxe, Muay Thai e Escrima (arte marcial filipina). Eu levava o Boxe muito a sério e eu queria ir muito distante com isso, mas quando eu comecei a aprender Jiu-Jitsu eu não consegui mais largar.

FIGHTTV - Há alguns anos você vem se destacando nos eventos internacionais da modalidade. No ano de 2000  ainda na categoria juvenil faixa azul, você conquistou duas medalhas no Mundial (3º Pesadíssimo e 2º Absoluto) e em 2007 você se sagrou Campeão Mundial na faixa-preta, sendo o segundo não-brasileiro da história a conquistar este título, e vencendo Luiz Felipe Theodoro, o mesmo lhe que vencera em 2000 na semi-final.

Como foi para você ter conseguido esta conquista e ter vencido um adversário muito difícil como Big Mac ?

Rafael Lovato Jr – Sim, Big Mac e eu temos uma história.  Ele me venceu nas semifinais do Mundial do ano 2000, na divisão juvenil.  Nós nunca nos encontramos novamente até os finais do Mundial em 2007. O Big Mac é um adversário difícil, mas eu fiquei extremamente feliz porque eu tinha realizado um dos meus sonhos. Eu nunca esquecerei como eu me senti quando minha mão foi levantada após vencer o Big Mac.  

FIGHTTV - Você já é um dos grandes nomes do Jiu-Jitsu mundial na atualidade, e foi apontado por Ronaldo Jacaré em um grande site de notícias brasileiro (Graciemag.com) como um dos favoritos ao título absoluto do PAN 2008. Além de você, quem você aponta como os grandes nomes do Jiu-Jitsu atual ?

Rafael Lovato Jr – Há tantos nomes agora que seria muito difícil para mim nomear todos. Eu acredito que atravessamos um momento muito especial no Jiu-Jitsu, em que há tantos talentos nas principais competições, que às vezes eu gostaria de ser um espectador.  

FIGHTTV - Nós criamos em 2007 o Ranking Mundial Unificado de Jiu-Jitsu. Como você  avalia nossa iniciativa ?

Rafael Lovato Jr – Eu penso que a criação do ranking é algo muito bom. Eu gosto do fato de poder olhar para o perfil de um atleta e pode ver todas as suas conquistas na faixa preta.  

FIGHTTV - Rafael, no Brasil em 2008 serão realizados alguns eventos organizados pela CBJJE. Você pretende participar dos eventos a entidade ?

Rafael Lovato Jr – Eu acredito que não poderei participar desses torneios. Eu tenho uma escola em Oklahoma juntamente com meu pai e é difícil viajar para o Brasil com todas as responsabilidades que tenho aqui.  Eu esperava competir no Brasileiro este ano (CBJJ), mas eu acho que também está muito próximo do Mundial.  

FIGHTTV - Hoje você faz parte da Equipe de Saulo e Alexandre Ribeiro. O que isso representa pra você ?

Rafael Lovato Jr – Significa bastante para mim.  Não apenas pela reputação deles e todos os títulos que eles ganharam, mas porque eles realmente me fizeram sentir como um irmão.  Quando qualquer um de nós está competindo, é como se nós todos estivéssemos lutando.  Eles fizeram tanto para mim e eu espero representá-los da melhor forma possível.  

FIGHTTV - Para terminarmos, quais são seus planos futuros ?

Rafael Lovato Jr – Agora mesmo minha mente está focada no Mundial.  Eu também gostaria de participar no Mundial Sem Kimono (No-Gi). Depois disso eu começarei minha preparação para o MMA e o ADCC.

Check the exclusive interview granted to FIGHTTV by the American Jiu-Jitsu athlete Rafael Lovato Jr., 2007 World Champion (IBJJF – Super Super Heavyweight) and 2007 and 2008 Pan-American Champion (IBJJF – Super Heavyweight and Heavyweight) that is rising among the top-10 fighters of the actual Jiu-Jitsu scene in three different weight divisions, the Heavyweight, the Super-Heavyweight and the Super Super Heavyweight.

FIGHTTV - Rafael, your name is very common in Brazil. When you first appeared many people thought you were Brazilian. Do you have any Brazilian lineage?   
 
Rafael Lovato Jr - No, I do not.  I am named after my father, who is Spanish.


FIGHTTV - How old are you, and how old were you when you first started practicing Jiu-Jitsu?  
  
Rafael Lovato Jr - I am 24 years old and I was 13 years old when I started Jiu-Jitsu.

 
FIGHTTV - Besides Jiu-jitsu, have you ever practiced any other martial art?   

Rafael Lovato Jr - Yes, I have.  My father is a Jeet Kune Do instructor and he got me involved with martial arts when I was a little kid.  I was very active in boxing, Muay Thai, and escrima.  I was very serious about boxing and I wanted to go very far with it, but when I started learning Jiu-Jitsu I was hooked.

  
FIGHTTV - For a couple of years you’ve been standing out in the in the international events of the modality.  In the year of 2000, still in the blue belt juvenile category, you won two medals in the World Championship (3rd Heavyweight and 2nd Overall). In 2007 you won the Black Belt World Championship, being the second non-Brazilian to win this title in the history of this Championship, coincidentally winning Felipe Theodoro, the same opponent you won in the 2000 World Championship semi-finals.   

Rafael Lovato Jr - Yes, Big Mac and I have some history.  He beat me in the semifinals of the 2000 Mundials, in the juvenile division.  We never met again until the finals of the Mundials in 2007.


FIGHTTV - How do you feel about this victory, considering that you’ve defeated a very difficult opponent like Luiz Big Mac?   

Rafael Lovato Jr - Big Mac is a difficult opponent, but I was overjoyed because I had accomplished one of my dreams.  I will never forget how it felt when my hand was raised.    

FIGHTTV - You’re already one of the greatest names of Jiu-jitsu in the world at the present time. You were also pointed out by world-class fighter, Ronaldo Jacaré in a specialized brazilian jiu-jitsu website (Graciemag.com) as one of the favorite to win the overall 2008 Pan-American title. 
Besides you, what other great names would you point out, in the current Jiu-jitsu scene?   

Rafael Lovato Jr - There are so many right now that it would be too hard to name them all.  I think we are in a special time in Jiu-Jitsu, there is so much talent at the major competitions that sometimes I wish I was a spectator.
